Wanted: Candidates for the Hampden Park Co-op Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Hampden Park Co-op invites you to join us in becoming more involved in your cooperative. Cooperatives are member-owned democratic organizations. The Board of Directors is chosen through elections in which you, the owners, vote. You, the owners, are also invited to run for the Board of Directors.

Members that are interested in becoming board candidates will need to complete an application that is available in the store or here. Please return the completed application to the co-op by September 20. Directors must be at least 18 and Hampden Park Co-op owners in good standing. They must also not have an overriding conflict of interest with the co-op’s business. Potential applicants are encouraged to attend board meetings in order to see how we conduct business. Upcoming board meetings will be on Thursday, August 25, and Friday, September 23, at 6:00 pm, either in the studio upstairs from the co-op or in the co-op office; watch for notices in the entrway.

Prior experience and professional training are not required to run for the board; necessary training will be provided to all new board members. We are always in need of members who can bring business, accounting, marketing, and cooperative experience to our table. Any member that is enthusiastic about committing time and energy to our cooperative is encouraged to apply! A director has a three-year commitment. There is generally one 2½–hour board meeting per month. Directors are part of several committees that also meet once per month. The committees include: Board Development, Membership, Finance, Physical Plant, Personnel, Fundraising, and Long-Range Planning.

There is a committee to fit every skill set and wish list! Committees usually meet once per month for an hour and a half, and work on tasks and activities as needed.
