Update From the HPC Board of Directors

-by Joel Krogstad, Chair

Much is afoot on the HPC board these days. New directors Brian Corner, Matt Hass, and Ed Morales have brought an infusion of new energy and ideas to the board in the past few months. Brian brings important marketing and technology skills from his position as Publicity Support with Cedar Cultural Center. Matt brings considerable previous board and management experience to his new role. Ed was a previous board chair of Chequamegon Food Co-op in Wisconsin, and I am pleased to say is our new vice chair.

Sharing Your Talents at Hampden Park Co-op

—by Joel Krogstad, HPC Board Chair

Do you have a great idea on how to make volunteer time more productive and enjoyable? Do you have experience with building restoration? Do you enjoy creating slogans and posters for events or campaigns?

I spent my first five years at HPC stocking shelves, cutting cheese, and writing newsletter articles; and never once did I know that much of the co-op’s planning work is accomplished through committees that any member can participate in for volunteer credit. If you are someone who has been volunteering for a while, you may want to consider giving your talents to the co-op in a new way this coming year.

There are seven committees that HPC members can serve on:

Board Directors Retreat to Strategize for HPC’s Future

—by Kjersti Hanneman, HPC Board Member

Since the beginning of the year, the Hampden Park Co-op Board of Directors has been hard at work thinking about and planning for the future of our co-op. In addition to regular monthly meetings and committee meetings, the board recently held a day-long retreat. Bill Gessner, of Cooperative Development Services, facilitated the retreat. CDS, a non-profit headquartered in St. Paul and in Madison, Wisconsin, serves the cooperative community of the Upper Midwest.
